Margaret Truman, the daughter of Harry & Bess Truman, was born February 17, 1924. She was an American classical soprano, actress, journalist, radio and television personality, and writer. She’s best known for her ‘Capital Crimes’ series of novels set in Washington DC (and perhaps ‘Harry Truman’, considered a definitive biography of her father).“There was a house we all had in common and it was called the past, even though we’d lived in different rooms.” / Angela Carter20% Off & Free Shipping on (Almost) Everything at Society6! 📖 Check out all the great products in our Society6 shop here http://tiny.cc/GasStationB or follow the link in our profile to shop all the day designs we have available! She is best known for ‘The Bloody Chamber’, and ‘Nights at the Circus’, which won the Jack Tait Black Memorial Prize. The play, “The Little Foxes” opened on Broadway in February, 1939, and ran for 410 performances at the National Theatre, now the Nederlander. Set in a small town in Alabama in 1900, where Southerner Regina Hubbard Giddens struggles for wealth and freedom within the confines of an early 20th-century society where fathers considered only sons as their legal heirs. Written by Lillian Hellman, a renowned dramatist and screenwriter known for her success as a playwright on Broadway, as well as her left-wing sympathies and political activism. She was blacklisted after her appearance before the House Committee on Un-American Activities at the height of the anti-communist campaigns when she refused to answer the committee’s questions.Lady Caroline Blackwood, who died February 14, 1996, was a writer whose novels were known for their wit and intelligence, and one in particular is scathingly autobiographical in describing her unhappy childhood. Her personal life was as well reported as her literary career, with marriages to the grandson of Sigmund Freud, painter Lucien Freud, and poet Robert Lowell, whose poem ‘The Dolphin’ provides a disrupted narrative of his involvement with Blackwood and the birth of their son. Blackwood also contributed to a number of magazines, writing on topics such as beatniks, Ulster sectarianism, feminist theatre. She was, of course, criticized for having an opinion, and for being only capable of thinking negatively and searching for the flaws within it, because how dare anyone say something negative about Kerouac and the garbage he wrote.@gasstation_b
